Khmer Brahmin Priests in the Thai Court
Thai temple mural.
Eight white-clad Khmer Brahmin priests perform
sacred rites before the Thai King and Queen. After the devastation of
Angkor Vat in 1431 by Siamese troops, the upstart neighbouring Thai royal
court at Ayudhya began recruiting Khmer brāhmin families as political
advisors, scientists, astrologers, artists, doctors, and conductors of
sacred Hindu rites.
